Delicious Everything Bagel Recipe
Everything bagels are, by far, my favourite flavour of bagel. They are just so delicious. This everything bagel recipe takes my plain bagel recipe and fancies it up using Everything But The Bagel Seasoning. Super simple!
One day I will experiment with mixing my own everything seasoning but, when I saw it in the spice aisle at Costco, I needed to buy it. I love taking the time to create but sometimes shortcuts are nice as well.
If you have a recipes for Everything But The Bagel seasoning that you like, please share it with me!
For now, lets make bagels.
To make the everything bagels, I simply take my plain bagel recipe and make it fancy. One extra ingredient can transform this recipe.
We started by just putting the seasoning on top, like many commercial bagels. When you cut these bagels and put them in the toaster, you loose so many of the delicious additives so I decided to put them into the dough instead. By adding the seasoning into the dough, the flavour is not just on top but throughout the entire bagel.
It is SO good.
Everything Bagel Recipe
My family absolutely loves this recipe. Our preferred way to eat these delicious, homemade bagels is with cream cheese or to transform them into sandwiches using deli meat, lettuce, cucumbers, and condiments of choice. A simple bagel with cream cheese is a great way to start the morning. Make these for lunch or even dinner by creating extremely tasty sandwiches.
I know, I know… I have walked enough about bagels.
Let’s get down to the actual recipe for Everything Bagels.
Everything Bagels
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 4 tsp sugar
- 1 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp everything but the bagel seasoning add more or less to your liking
- 2 tsp milk
Instructions
- Mix together water, yeast, and sugar in the bowl of your stand mixer. Let sit for 5 minutes
- Add flour, salt and seasoning then mix on low using a dough hook until everything is combined (approximately 2 minutes).
- Knead dough by hand or using your stand mixer (dough may be too heavy for some stand mixers.) If using stand mixer, knead for approximated 5-6 minutes.
- Place dough into an oiled bowl, turn the dough to coat, and then allow to rise, covered, for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down your dough and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
- While dough is resting, bring a wide pot of water to a boil. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees and prepare your baking sheets.
- Divide dough into 8 pieces (6 if you want large bagels). Form balls and then press your finger and thumb together through the middle to create a hole and form the bagel shape.
- Reduce heat of boiling water to medium-high and add 2 or 3 bagels to the water. Boil on each side for 45 – 60 seconds. (The longer you boil, the chewier the bagel will be). Remove bagels, place onto prepared baking sheets and repeat with the rest of the bagels.
- Using a pastry brush, brush the top of your bagels with milk (or an egg wash, if desired). You can add more Everything But The Bagel Seasoning on top as well.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer to a cooling rack and allow to cool.
- Enjoy
